Acer Plans Ultrathin Notebooks With Core i5 And i7 Processors

Taiwanese PC maker Acer is now second only to HP in terms of worldwide laptop shipments. And the company is all set to launch a new line of ultrathin notebooks powered by Intel’s Core i5 and Core i7 processors. These ULV (Ultra Low Voltage) processors are known to deliver significantly better performance than the Core 2 Duo ULV variants.

Acer, we are certain, is a huge fan of Intel ULV processors. The company’s Timeline series runs almost exclusively on Core 2 Duo ULV variants.

The new notebooks will be as thin as the MacBook Air. And if we heard it right, they will measure just 0.7 inches in thickness. They will reportedly be launched this year itself.

Lenovo Rolls Out Two New AMD-Powered Notebooks

The G455 and G555 will soon be released in the US

According to a press release, Lenovo will start selling two new models next month. The Lenovo G455 and G555 are allegedly designed for mainstream users.

"Our new G series notebooks and C series all-in-one desktop are designed for users who want a simple but powerful computing experience without any headaches," said Dion Weisler, vice president, Business Operations Lenovo. "By working closely with AMD engineers and leveraging AMD advanced technologies, we have created products that offer superior performance in the areas of graphics and power efficiency at an affordable price point.”

Both models are reportedly equipped with 16:9 HD displays and built-in ATI Radeon graphics. The laptops will be powered by up to a dual-core AMD Turion II central processing unit and will pack DirectX 10 support and an ergonomic keyboard.

These upcoming portable computers will run Microsoft’s Windows 7 operating system and will sport Lenovo Energy Management 5.0. It allows customers to switch among different energy-saving modes and provides the battery with longer life by averting unnecessary recharges.

The notebooks will also feature backup and recovery tools and VeriFace facial recognition, which is a system for secured logging on to the computer.

Pricing/Availability

The Lenovo G455 and G555 will begin selling in the United States in March of 2010 with a starting price of US $449 (≈ €327.31/£287.21).

Toshiba Tecra A11 Laptop

Toshiba’s recently unveiled Tecra A11 15.6-inch business laptop with the Intel Core i3, i5 and i7 processors is now available.

Along with the Core i3-330M, i5-430M, i5-520M or i7-620M CPU, the configurable Toshiba Tecra A11-ST3500 includes the Intel GMA HD integrated or NVIDIA NVS 210M discrete graphics card, up to 320GB hard drive or a 128GB solid state drive, up to 8GB of DDR3 memory, a DVD burner and Windows 7 OS. The display resolution is 1366×768 or 1600×900 pixels. All models feature LED screen backlight.

The Tecra A11 also features an optional built-in web camera and mic, optional Bluetooth, a Gigabit Ethernet LAN port, optional 56k modem, 802.11 a/g/n WiFi, three USB ports, an additional USB/eSATA combo port, an ExpressCard slot, an optional Smart Card reader, and Mini Display and VGA outputs.

According to Toshiba, the laptop provides up to 4.83 hours of battery life with the standard 6-cell battery.

The laptop starts at 5.63 pounds.

The Toshiba Tecra A11-ST3500 has a base price of $879.00 at the company’s online store, which also offers pre-configured A11 models.
